Casa de Restauración
Home of Restoration
Domestic violence or abuse (also called intimate partner violence or abuse) can happen to any woman regardless of her age, strength, income, education, or marital status. Across Canada, the majority of abused women (and their children) turned away from a temporary shelter facility on any given day (82%) are turned away because the shelter is full (Statistics Canada, 2024).
The percentage of women turned away is even higher in the Greater Toronto Area owing to a lack of affordable long-term housing options. This data underscores the growing demand for shelter services and the critical need for increased capacity to support women and children in crisis.
Manantial Neighbourhood Services Inc. receives referrals regarding gender-based violence occurrences from local divisions of the Toronto and York Regional Police Services, from Victim Services Ontario, from local churches in the Greater Toronto Area, from other community partner organizations, and by word of mouth.
Manantial owns a home in northwest Toronto for victims of domestic violence and their children, called "Casa de Restauración" (or "Home of Restoration"). The home is focused on providing safe and secure temporary accommodation and "wrap around" support services and is able to accommodate up to seven women and their children at any one time.
You can help Manantial operate this badly needed home through a one-time, monthly, or annual donation. As little as $25 a month will be a big help to Manantial in paying down the home monthly mortgage and supporting the home's monthly operating costs. By contributing to Manantial and the operation of the "Casa de Restauración", you ensure that vulnerable individuals in our community receive the care and support they need, empowering them to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
